Marmara Region of Turkey

Marmara Region: Marmara turkey is a popular region in the northwest portion of the nation and it acts as the Turkish bridge to Europe. The largest city in the country and the unofficial capital of the region, Istanbul resides here. This region is quite popular for imperial monuments as the Ottoman and Byzantine empires were centered on this region. Most of the Byzantine monuments are located in Istanbul and a number of other artifacts and monuments (which held importance in history) are also located in the provinces of Vize and Iznik. The monuments from the Ottoman times can be best viewed in Istanbul, Edirne and Bursa. These also acted as the capitals during the Ottoman Empire.

Just like the rest of the Turkish regions, the rail lines in the Marmara include linear lines as opposed to a web system. The passenger service lines can be seen between Edirne and Istanbul and the same continue on to Greece and Bulgaria. The lines between bozuyuk and Istanbul continue to central Anatolia region and Ankara region. The Aegean region can be navigated by taking train from bandirma to balikesir. These trains also cover several other towns in the Turkey region such as Bilecik, Osmaneli, Adapazari and Izmit.
